Rio is a very gentle dog who came into rescue after he was surrendered to a vet clinic. Rio is a sweet fellow who is quite shy with strangers. Rio takes time to warm up to new people, but one he does, he is the sweetest thing! He is a soft, shy personality, and is very affectionate. Rio does well with another dog around, and his foster parents believe that he needs another dog around for confidence, reassurance - and for playing too! He is not a dog who plays excessively, but he does like to romp around with another dog now and then. Rio is respectful of other dogs. The leash was new to him when he first arrived in rescue but he is walking like a pro these days! Rio is also excellent off leash - he has great recall, once he knows and trusts you. Rio is being left loose in the house in his current foster home, with access to a doggie door during the day. He is housebroken and is very clean in the house. Rio is great with both cats and dogs, and his soft nature makes him an easy introducer to both cats and dogs. Rio is a nice boy, he just needs someone with a little time and patience to move forward. Rio is good with both cats and dogs, and his soft nature makes him quite easy to introduce. We are not sure Rio would be ideal for a home with kids, as quick movements seem to make him worry. He would be okay with older children that have the patience and understanding to give him the time needed to warm up. He is quite non-confrontational and tends to avoid (or run from) things that make him nervous. Rio has captured many hearts, and is such a sweet dog. He will need someone with time and patience to devote to him, to help boost his confidence. Once given time to warm up and get comfortable, Rio is one lovable, hug-able guy! (Indoor Home Only!)
